Idea 2:

Bristol Bridge Rotary Club Climb Mount Apo (2,954m) in two hours!
Whilst raising vitally needed funds for local Bristol Charities . . . . . .
Date Thursday 26th February, 7pm – 9pm.

Sponsored Rock Climbing Day = 2,954m climbing challenge to raise vitally needed funds for The Jessie May Trust, Fareshare South West and The Women’s Project.

Bristol Bridge Rotary Club will challenge themselves to rock climb the equivalent of Mount Apo (The highest mountain in the Philippines and one of the worlds most challenging climbing sites - only for experienced professional rock climbers).

Bristol Bridge Rotary Club will manage this mammoth task by climbing the 8m wall at the Bristol Climbing Centre (Built within the fifteenth century Church of St.Werburghs) 370 times in two hours!

18 members of Bristol Bridge Rotary Club (all whom have never climbed before) will each climb a gruelling 164m (20.5 times of the 8m wall each) . . . . . . . 10 climbs of the 8m wall per hour, each!

Each climber will collect sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues.
If 50 people sponsor you £2 each you would raise - £100
If 30 people sponsor you £2 each you would raise - £60

Costs:
£35p/h for two instructors (1 instructor per 9 people) x 2 hours = £70
£8.50 per head – includes ropes + helmets etc x 18 people = £153
Total = £223
Per Head = £12.39 (18 people)

Income:
If each person taking part in the climb raises £100 in sponsorship = £1,800
If each person taking part in the climb raises £60 in sponsorship = £1080

Profits for charity:
Sponsorship at £100 each, after costs = £1,577 for charity
Sponsorship at £60 each, after costs = £857 for charity

Everyone taking part must wear trainers and sensible clothing.

Hi Amy,

Some great suggestions already - it's so good to have you back! :D

About the climbing idea - I actually go to Undercover Rock about once a week and have a few years' climbing experience. I think your idea is pretty challenging. If I understand it right, each person would have to climb 20 times in a total of 2 hours. I think this would be incredibly knackering, especially if you've never climbed before. Generally, when I go climbing, if I can manage about 10 climbs in about an hour and a half session, I will feel tired enough to call it a day. Could we maybe scale it back a bit?

If anyone is interested in trying climbing for themselves, I'd be happy to get them to come along to a taster session. Just let me know!
