Charity Events

Here are some of our upcoming charitable events. We have more ideas in the pipeline, so check back here occasionally for further items, which will be added in due course. Better yet, come along to one of our breakfast meetings to make your suggestions about the kinds of charitable activities that you would like our club to get involved in.

Charity Quiz

After the incredible success of our first ever charity quiz last year, when we raised over £1,200, we are determined to organise another quiz. This time, it's in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind. We are aiming to raise £2,000 to fund the cost of converting a book to braille.

The event will take place at the Radisson Blu hotel. It will be a fun packed quiz with an excellent fine food buffet and two free drinks; there will be wonderful prizes to be won and the chance to show off your superior quiz knowledge. Tickets are £25 each for teams of 6. £10 of the ticket price will go directly to our charity. Click here for a poster of the event, which you are welcome to circulate amongst your friends and family to drum up support.

If you are interested in entering a team, please contact our Social Secretary to reserve your place. Last year, the event was a sell-out, with a waiting list of teams, so make sure you book your team in as soon as possible.

Dragon Boat Festival

Yes, that time of year is coming round again where Bristol Bridge members dress up in silly costumes, have a brilliant day out and raise lots of money for Macmillan Cancer Care. Click here for further details about the festival. Also check out our Galleries pages for photos from 2008 and 2009.

We have entered a boat in the Dragon Boat Festival for the third year in row, and this year's theme will be Noah and his Ark. The "animals" will go on the boat two by two, in our special, handmade costumes!

Alex Wallis (aka Pappa Smurf, aka Willy Wonka!) has bravely agreed to be the skipper again so please contact him to register your interest in taking part in this event. We will require at least 16 people for the boat, and the more the merrier! Further details will be distributed nearer the time, but please put your name down now to guarantee yourself a place on the boat

In addition David Gammon (Bristol Breakfast, and the organiser of the Dragon Boat Festival is looking for additional teams to fill a boat for the overall charity - "The Station". Please can you approach your companies to see whether they would be interested in sponsoring and filling a boat - this is a great event for team building and a really fun day out.

Friday - Saturday 9 - 10 July 2010

South Cotswold Beer Festival

Yate Rotary Club are again organising the South Cotswold Beer Festival which takes place at Chipping Sodbury Rugby Ground on Friday and Saturday the 9th and 10th of July 2010.

Following the popularity of this event with BBRC members in the past two years, we have again been asked for volunteers for the Saturday to help serve the beers/ciders/wine. Volunteers are needed to help serve the drinks over two hour shifts between 12 noon and 11:30pm.

The event is lots of fun, with over 100 real ales, ciders and perrys to choose from, along with a selection of cooked food. There is also heaps of live music on over the course of the two days. Have a look at our Gallery pages for our photos from this event from the past couple of years. You can also follow the event on Facebook here.

If you would like to help out, please contact our Social Secretary confirming which date you are available and whether you have a preferred time of day when you would be able to help.

Run for the Future 2010

This annual 5K "fun" run organised by the Rotary Club of Bristol has become one of the many regular events that our club gets involved in. This family friendly race raises much needed funds for the Bristol Urological Institute, in aid of vital research into prostate cancer.

Volunteers can help out either by marshalling on the day, or by donning a pair of trainers and running the plesant course around Durdham Downs. Please get in touch with our Charities Secretary if you would like to help.
